About us
Porthcawl Lifeguard Club was established in 1959, its objectives:
Members join the club to have fun, keep fit and be part of a community. Member benefits include access to training for surf skills and lifesaving, professional development, competitions and qualifications.
The Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2009 and has recently seen its membership blossom with many youngsters getting involved in weekly pool training sessions throughout the year and beach training sessions during the summer.
While some members join to build their confidence in the water and to belong to a friendly sociable club, others can train for nationally recognised qualifications:
Nippers aged 7-12 can pursue Surf Competence Awards and Certificate of Achievement Levels 1-4.
Juniors aged 13-15 can pursue the Junior Surf Lifesaver Award.
Seniors 16+/Masters are able to pursue the Beach Lifesaver Award; NARS Beach Lifeguards; IRB Crew and Driver.
Our club works in a voluntary capacity alongside full-time professional Lifeguards who patrol Coney Beach and Trecco Bay.
